Arranging Collection

Item receiver

If you want to pick up an item, you will need to request an address for pickup from the member giving away the item, and possibly their phone number. Bear in mind that the other member is not obliged to supply a phone number to you and they might want to keep all communications to emails only and only provide you with the address for pick up and a suitable time for you to pick the item up. If a phone number is not provided, make sure you check your email account frequently in case a change of arrangement is communicated by the other member.

Item giver

If someone is wishing to pickup an item from you, provide them with an address for pickup and agree on a suitable time. It is best to provide a range of time, for e.g. “between 6:30 - 8pm” , rather than a precise time, to allow for traffic or any difficulty in finding the address provided. Be sure you will be at the address at the agreed time, if you can’t be there make sure you warn them well in advance of the other member beginning their journey to your address. You are not obliged to provide your phone number, if you decide not to supply your phone number make sure you check your email account frequently in case a change of arrangement is communicated by the other member.

Marking an item as ‘Collection arranged’

If you have a member interested in picking up an item, and you have both agreed to a time and place for the item to be picked up, then switch the ‘Collection arranged’ switch to “YES”. This action will hide your item from the SnaffleUp search results page so you won’t be contacted by further members interested in your item. If however an arrangement to collect an item falls through, you can return to the ‘Your Giveaways’ area and switch the ‘Collection arranged’ switch back to “NO” and if no edits to the item has been made, the item will be relisted automatically.

Scammers

NEVER SEND ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY to another SnaffleUp member. All items on SnaffleUp are listed as FREE and must be given away 100% free without any exchange of money. If a member requests money for an item or offers to deliver an item to you and requests money for the service, you should consider this a ‘red flag’ that this is a scam. If you can not pick up an item yourself, then we strongly advise you source an independent and legitimate courier or moving company to pick up the item for you.

I’ve been asked by a member to send money for delivery of an item - what do I do?

I don’t want to give out my phone number, can I still arrange collection?

All responsibility for item collection are independent arrangements (of the SnaffleUp system) and are exclusively between you and the member whose item you are collecting, or who is picking up your item. You are not under any obligation to give out your phone number. Instead simply arrange a time and a (safe) place to meet and request that if there is a last minute change to plan by either party, or if extra directions or instructions are required, that this is communicated via email. Most people these days have smart phones and so can check their email ‘on the go’, if they don’t, just make sure you have given clear instructions and directions well in advance of the collection date and keep to your arranged time, date and location.

I don’t want a stranger coming to my house to collect an item.

All responsibility for item collection are independent arrangements (of the SnaffleUp system) and are exclusively between you and the member whose item you are collecting, or who is picking up your item. You are not under any obligation to meet another member at your private residence. You are entitled to instead arrange to meet at an alternative location, we suggest you choose a busy public location where you and the giver of an item will feel safe, try to meet during daylight hours, and if possible have someone accompany you.

The Approval Process

What is the approval process?

When a member lists an item, the item goes into a queue to be approved before it appears on the listing page where other members can view it.
The approval process exists because The SnaffleUp Team is committed to checking that all listed items meet our requirements for authenticity. Our site is for free items only and we are also dedicated to keeping off listings that are illegitimate and posted by scammers.
Items that fail the approval process do so because they appear to:

  • Request money
  • Feature an animal as the item for giveaway or sale
  • Or look to be illegal in any other way

On the ‘Your Giveaways’ page, why do I have two tabs; ‘Approved’ and ‘Awaiting Approval’?

When you ‘Add an Item’ to SnaffleUp the item will first appear under the section ‘Your Giveaways’ under the tab ‘Awaiting Approval’. Once The SnaffleUp Team has approved your item, it will then appear under the tab ‘Approved Items’.

How long will it take for my item to be approved?

24 - 48 hours

What happens if my Item doesn’t pass the approval process?

If your item has not passed the approval process it will appear marked with a red (‘!’) icon under the ‘Awaiting Approval’ tab. You have the option to then either:

  • Resubmit the item. If you think your item does comply with the requirements for approval and there has been a mistake then select to ‘resubmit’ your item so it will be sent back into the queue to be reviewed again.
  • Edit the item. If you have made a mistake and want to make a change to the listing so it meets requirements then select to ‘edit’ the item. Please note that after you have edited an item it will be sent back into the queue to be reviewed again for approval.
  • Delete this item. If you have made a mistake and want to remove the item from the ‘Your Giveaways’ section, then select the option ‘delete’ the item.

Your Items

Editing an ‘Approved Item’

If you need to make a change to an approved item’s details, then you can edit and save the updated items details. Please note that after you have edited an item it will be sent back into the queue to be reviewed again for approval and will therefore be moved back under the tab ‘Awaiting Approval’.

Editing an ‘Awaiting Approval’ item

If you need to make a change to item’s details that is awaiting approval, then you can edit and save the updated items details. Please note that after you have edited an item it will be sent to the back of the approval queue to be reviewed so you will need to wait the full 24-48 hours for item approval.

Expiry of an item

All items that have not been arranged to be collected within 30 days from the day they are approved are automatically removed from the listing page and are marked as ‘Expired’ in the ‘Your Giveaways’ section. However you have the opportunity to ‘Refresh’ the item to make it reappear in the listings up until 5 days after the expiry date. If you do not refresh the item within this time period it will automatically be removed from the section ‘Your Giveaways’.

Refreshing an item

All items that have not been arranged to be collected within 30 days from the day they are approved are automatically removed from the listing page. However if you want to keep these items on SnaffleUp for a longer period at any time, simply go to 'Your Giveaways', find the item under the ‘Approved Items’ tab and select the option to ‘refresh’ the item listing.

Wanted Items

The removal of wanted items

On the the old version of the site we had a wanted items section. We felt when we redesigned the site that that format wasn't working for most users. If you found that having a wanted items page was useful to you please let us know via our page
